Project Rationale
It is expected that the project will deliver:
- Core modules are available to the secondary school students, people seeking employment, students enrolled on current ITO programmes and current employers in the industry. The use of resources is optimised.
- Modules are mapped to Unit Standards (US) and will lead to the formal acquisition and recognition of units of learning.
- Trainees will have an opportunity to complete Unit Standards that are appropriate across a range of industries.
- Student's access to tertiary education is enhanced, and uptake of the recognised core generic modules is maximised.
- The tertiary sector is better equipped to compete and meet with the next generation technology challenges within education sector.
- The tertiary sector increases its revenue through attracting more customers from overseas.
- New E-learning environment for ITO's opens up other unidentified new markets.
The Project will develop a common set of e-modules that enable secondary students, apprentices and trainees to:
- Develop recognised skills that are transportable across industries;
- Gain unit standards according to their choice but always relevant to the industry they ultimately chose to train and work in; and
- Attain a set of skills, which will enable them to succeed in their chosen trade.
The Learning Experience
Developments under this requirement will ensure that the learning experience is rich and the learning material:
- Engages learners
- Creates opportunities for learners for peer interaction and/or support
- Meets the stated learning objectives
- Provides opportunities for supported study
- Recognises the different learning styles
- Provides a base for future learning
User Experience
It is expected that the learning material be available on-line environment via Janison and WebCT. It is expected that the learner will complete the module remotely i.e., without any face to face contact with the tutor.
- The on-line material will be adjusted to user's desktop. The user will have the ability to customise the interface settings to suit their preference.
- The available material will be able to be printed in a print-friendly format.
- The learning for each module will be presented in small learning units that are mapped to the NQF framework.
- The mapping of these ‘units of learning' to the course and qualification will be clearly indicated.
- Learners will be exposed to a range of electronic tools and techniques that is appropriate to the nature of the topic and designed to deliver the programme aims.
- Electronic material will be more than static word documents on screen
